My name is Melissa Alexander.  I love working with people and as a result of my past experiences I created Body and Sole in 1998.  In July 2010 I had the opportunity to create a new clinic at Ashfield Lodge. After 5 years I stood down the big clinic and returned to just myself as the practitioner.  After a couple of other moves I have now settled in my forever home in Kingsteignton.

I have full Diplomas Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage, Body Massage, Advanced Body Massage and a First Class Honours Degree in Sports Therapy - exercise, rehabilitation and treatment of injuries. â€‹

I treat athletes at International, national and local level of sports and people who have aches, pains and injuries and not sporty or athletic.

I have volunteered at London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Commonwealth Games - Glasgow 2014 and Birmingham 2022, at Men's Rugby world cup 2015 and worked for Official Sports Services at Ladies Rugby World Cup 2025.  I have over the years provided Sports Therapy and Pitch side First Aid at national and local sporting events.

I have been proud to work for the NHS for almost 20 years on Mental Health wards providing Holistic, Complementary and Sports Massage to staff and patients.  I sadly stopped December 2023 and focus now on my patients and sporting events.

"If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape you are old.  If at the age of 60 you are supple and strong then you are young"

HOLISTIC TREATMENTS

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy treatment with oils extracted from plants.  It was first used by the Egyptians in 4500 BC.

Aromatherapy has great healing qualities:  psychological, physiological, emotional and spiritual.  It is relaxing, calming and balancing on the mind and body.

A full consultation will be taken prior to any treatment.

BEAUTY TREATMENTS
PILATES

All products are chosen for Holistic reasons and as natural as possible.  I am currently switching from my old supplier to Eve Taylor Skin care range.  Eve Taylor has been my supplier of essential oils since 1996.  They also supply oils to Dermalogica.

Beauty treatments can be combined along with Holistic treatments for a wonderful pampering package .  Treatments include facials, waxing, eyebrow shaping and eyebrow and lash tinting.  Manicures and pedicures.

Beauty treatments are perfect as a pre holiday pamper, birthday present, before a special event or just as a treat to yourself.

A complete mind and body exercise method developed by

its founder Joseph Pilates.

Benefits are:

• Improve strength, flexibility, agility and overall mobility
• Restore body to balance
• Postural improvement, move more efficiently
• Strengthen core muscles (back, abdominal and pelvic muscles)
• Develop longer, leaner muscles
• Tones and reshapes the body
• Improve overall sense of well-being
• Re-educates and restores optimum muscular and skeletal function
• Help sports enthusiasts improve their game

Pilates is a holistic approach appropriate for medical and orthopaedic conditions regardless of age and fitness level. It is one of the safest forms of exercise today.  A series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises.  Gentle floor exercises modified for the beginner with progression to intermediate or advanced levels. All classes are mixed ability.

REHABILITATION TRAINING

Sports therapy always advocates exercise.  Exercise is about stretching tight muscle groups or strengthening weak ones, or even a combination of both.  Exercises are always combined with core training and stability work.

Pre and post surgery exercise - especially for knees and hips.  Rehabilitation treatment post surgery includes  manual lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and pain, and improve blood flow.  Increased blood flow brings oxygen and nutrients to the site to promote cell renewal and repair, and remove dead and damaged cells.  Scar tissue work to reduce the scar and increase tissue pliability. This helps tissues slide and glide at optimal function and range of movement work to maximise joint function.

Health promotion is extremely important for physical, mental, emotional and psychological health.  Exercise releases endorphins that give the "feel good factor" and reduces pain signals.
